Our Mission...
is to reduce the burden of chronic disease in both individuals and the
community by empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to live healthier lives and by creating community-wide policy, environment, and practice changes to increase options for healthy living.
SLCHI concentrates on three main health issues identified by a community needs assessment:
- increasing access to healthcare for all county residents and promoting preventive health care;
- reducing the incidence of substance abuse through education, prevention and treatment opportunities, with a focus on youth tobacco cessation; and
- increasing opportunities for sound nutrition and physical activity.

Our Structure
The SLCHI is a Member Organization - visit our Member Organization Page!
Each Member Organization appoints a representative to our Board of Directors. The Board also has a Youth Council Representative elected by the SLCHI SPORT Program Youth Council. (Click here to read more about SPORT!)
SLCHI also has three Task Groups which were formed to address the county's priority health issues. Fifty people from throughout the county currently participate in the Task Groups. Click here to visit the Task Group pages!
