GEAR 2008

Go Extreme Adventure Race!

GEAR is an adventure sprint race. This year we have two courses, an introductory course and a longer, more challenging course, for more experienced racers. Adventure racing is a team sport - so grab a friend(s) and join us!

  • Race Purpose: GEAR is a fundraising event for the Health Initiative. Teams may want to ask a local business, school, etc. to sponsor their team's entry fee. Teams are also encouraged to raise money above the entry fee. Friends, family, co-workers or complete strangers can donate for teams directly by going to the Registered Teams Page and clicking on the donation button next to the team.

  • Teams: Teams can be either two- or three-person. Three person teams must be co-ed. Two person teams can be single gender or mixed.

  • Divisions: GEAR 08 will have two divisions running on two different courses. Both divisions start together and finish at the same place.

    * Go Extreme - This division is for teams who are seasoned physical competitors or teams who are new to adventure racing but are up for a challenge. Total course length is between 17 and 20 miles.
    * Go Easy - This division is geared toward teams that may be new to competition, are less fit or who just want to savor the experience and the wonderful scenery. Total course length is between 12 and 15 miles.

  • Race Course: There are three main elements to the race; trail running/walking, flat-water canoeing and mountain biking (mixed single track and dirt and paved roads),. There will also be several mystery challenges along the course to test your mental skills and your teamwork!

  • Race Length: GEAR is a sprint adventure race - depending on each team's level of fitness and skill the course is expected to take 3-5 hours to complete.
